The FLOW AROUND CYLINDERS and SPHERES Project
The Flow Around Cylinders and Spheres Project (FLACS) is concerned
with computing the flow around objects like cylinders and spheres
using high order finite element methods. At the present time, we are
utilizing albert (a finite element package under development here at
the University of Houston) to solve the Navier-Stokes equations.
Current topics being researched are:
- Iterated finite element methods
- Error estimation and mesh adaptation
- Flows around cylinders near walls
- Dynamics of jet interaction with cylinders
- Bubble simulation using front tracking techniques
An example of the flows we are computing is presented in Hector's movie.... (MPEG).
The group is made up of researchers from Computer Science,
Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering Departments here at UH. This
research is being supported in part by the Advanced Research Program
of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Grant No. 003652141.
